HTP provided a new design based on a conventional ‘Panel+Clip’ style bakeout oven eliminating the assembly issues by using a heavy duty, fabricated frame with floating heater elements to give a robust, stable oven structure and allow full disassembly.
The UK’s National Physical laboratory have been researching optical clocks to further increase the accuracy of frequency standards. HT Products conducted several development meetings with NPL’s research group to discuss their requirements and HTP developed a proposal for a turnkey system solution for UHV bakeout of Ion Trap components. The design needed to achieve the pressure required in the lab space available and provide the features, instruments and flexibility needed for future research tasks.
The system moved on from the traditional ‘panel & clip’ style vacuum bakeout oven design to a high integrity de mountable oven structure capable of bakeout temperatures in excess of 300°C, beyond that of a conventional panel oven or bakeout tent.
The system also included an intuitive heater control system allowing individual heaters in two bakeout zones across the bench top to be switch on an off during bakeout to adjust temperature concentration as required.
HTP successfully quoted and won the tender for the work.
The vacuum chamber was designed to NPL’s specification in collaboration with HTP who produced drawings and CAD models for customer approval.
The system utilises a dual Turbo-Molecular Pump setup with a primary TMP backed by a smaller Secondary TMP backed by a dry scroll pump.
The system includes 8 x pyrobar heaters with a programmable digital bakeout controller .
HTP manufactured a large CF200 chamber
with various connection for wide ranging
bakeout operations.
