The quantum detection group at the UK’s National Physical laboratory contacted HT Products to discuss their UHV sample
preparations which were based around an existing UHV bakeout system using Turbo-molecular pumps, sorption pumps and a
wet rotary pump. The group wanted to increase their capacity for component processing and speed up the process and
eliminate the use of rotary pump oil in the system.
HT Products Ltd. Initially assisted with the existing system conducting some service and maintenance on the equipment to
improve processing on a temporary basis while discussions began about a new system and designs were proposed.
The proposed system was designed around a detailed operating process for ion trap production and a specification was
developed for the system. HT Products Ltd. had a design for production UHV processing system that used a mechanical oven
to assist with routine bakeout processes. This existing design was customised using in house CAD design to accommodate
the full specification.
The vacuum chamber itself had several special features tailored to the user’s special requirements including:
A de-mountable sample container for clean sample transfer, gasket clamps for horizontal CF flanges, isolation valves, Optical
breadboard mounting.
HTP successfully quoted and won the tender for the work.
